Chapter 1 - Introduction

  1.1 Main Problem and Methods

Our team aim to solve Racism in America. Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another, which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity. To achieve this, we searched on the internet and interviewed several strangers at Harvard University.

  1.2 Summarize of 3 Solutions

Supervision and legislation are basic needs. Building an online communication platform connects people. Cultural exchange improves the inclusion of every culture and makes people be more tolerant.

Chapter 2 - Solution1 1: Supervision and Legislation

  2.1 Tentative Project Assumption

The law decides and influences people’s behaviors. We believe that stronger legislation is could reduce racism because we cannot depend on one's cannot use morality to reduce discrimination. Therefore, legislation is needed to reduce behaviors of racial discrimination.

  2.2 Facing Problems

The main obstruction is different social backgrounds. When considering legislation and supervision, all of these fields must be covered: nationality, social norms, religion, politics and etc. In brief, people’s awareness is the key thus forcing people may be useless.

  2.3 Sustainability Analysis

Built in a modern society, the law can have some minor changes, but should never lose its equality. Since the racism is never the trend, the law will always get people’s support.

  2.4 Feasibility Analysis

The law should focus on the racism itself but not on different people and races. In order to reduce racism, EQUALITY is the basis. With equality, the system would be recognized by people. Besides, law enforcement is key to reduce racism. Legislation would not be feasible until it has all of these elements. Therefore, it can reduce the behavior of racism with a significant effect.

Chapter 3 – Solution 2: Building an Online Communication Platform

  3.1 Tentative Project Assumption

Obviously, the lack of communication is one of the culprits. Accordingly, providing a place for different people to communicate is key to solving the problem. Mostly, people get information about other races from social media. But many of them are inaccurate. On the other hand, the best way to get information from others is to talk with them. The platform should have distinction of identity based on users’ races between them. But to be equal, there should be no different treatment among different people. As a result, this solution intends to build a new social media to connect people and races straightly and comprehensively.

  3.2 Facing Problems

As we mentioned before, equality is foundational. Everything should be constructed upon it. Also, the competition of social media is a huge resistance. Customers and markets are the source of life for the platform, and good management and administration make it effective. Every element is indispensable and essential.

  3.3 Sustainability Analysis

Building a social media is not easy. It can be divided into several steps: construction and maintenance of the server, propaganda and advertisement, management, supervision and administration of a community, money and etc. With all of these elements, the platform won’t stop working until the internet disappears.

  3.4 Feasibility Analysis

This idea is easier to realize compared with the other two methods. The key is how platform connects people and its equality and these are previously mentioned.

Chapter 4 – Solution 3: Promoting Cultural Exchange

  4.1 Tentative Project Assumption

In contrast to the platform where people talk subjectively, the cultural exchange is an objective way. Contemporary cultural exchange takes information exchange as a typical form. (https://baike.baidu.com/item/文化交流方式/22611024?fr=aladdin) Cultural Exchange consists of many elements. For instance, one country or race importing films or documentaries about other countries and races is a way of cultural exchange.

  4.2 Sustainability Analysis

Cultural exchange has existed since ancient times. Inclusion and opening are eternal topic and trend. As a result, cultural exchange would be everlasting between progressive cultures and races. (unfinished)

  4.3 Feasibility Analysis

The cultural exchange is an opportunity that can bring people accurate facts. Meanwhile, it has to maintain its objectivity otherwise it would never make a difference. Cultural exchange broadens people’s horizons. With a better cognition and understanding, people would be more tolerant of each other.

Chapter 5 – Future Development

  5.1 Timeline

Actually, we do not have a timeline. Our team is trying to deal with racism from an individual standpoint, which means the alleviation of this problem requires combined efforts from all people. Therefore, the future of racism can be quite unpredictable and it is, from our prospective, impractical to work out a timeline.

  5.2 Vision of the Future

We think whatever one’s attitude in the future of racism might be, there is something we should and can do. Among them the most important thing to do, is to promote mutual understanding. Though there is still a long way to go to addressing racism, we hope with mutual understanding, one day we can see gaps narrowed, stereotypes decreased, and prejudices eliminated.

Chapter 6 – Conclusion

The social problem we found is racism. Through the innovation program, we designed three different solutions.

  lSolution1: Supervision and Legislation

lSolution2: Building an Online Communication Platform

  lSoltution3: Promoting Cultural Exchange

We bravely hope that our solutions can be an inspiration to deal with racism.
